Ireland recorded 8,823 new dwelling completions in Q2 2026, a fall of 3.6% compared to the same period in 2025, according to figures released last week by the Central Statistics Office (CSO).
Apartment completions stood at 2,658, down 12.2% on Q2 2025.
More than half of all completions (54%) were scheme dwellings, with 4,738 completed during the quarter, representing a 2% increase year-on-year. Apartments accounted for 30% of all completions, while 16% were single dwellings.
Using the CSO's six-way urban/rural classification, almost 95% of scheme housing completions were built in cities, satellite urban towns or independent urban towns.
More than a third (36%) of all completions in Q2 2026 were in Dublin, while 19.6% were in the Mid-East region of Louth, Meath, Kildare and Wicklow. The Local Electoral Area (LEA) with the highest number of completions was Cabra-Glasnevin in Dublin, where 465 new homes were completed.
The Border region (Cavan, Donegal, Leitrim, Monaghan and Sligo) saw the largest relative increase in completions at 14.6%, while Dublin recorded the largest decline, with completions falling 16.4% year-on-year.
The CSO uses new domestic electricity connections from ESB Networks as the primary data source for the New Dwelling Completions series.
