Property transactions up by more than a third in first half of 2015

Property transactions for the first half of the year are up by more than a third on the same period of last year.

An analysis of the Property Price Register, conducted by property website MyHome.ie, shows there were 21,425 sales between January 1st and June 30th this year.

That was 34.6 per cent higher than the 15,920 transactions recorded during the same six-month period a year earlier.

However, despite the notable increase sales this year to date equate to just 49.6 per cent of the 43,164 transactions recorded for the whole of last year.

Sales in Dublin for the first half of the year were up by 42.8 per cent from 5,067 to 7,237. The other major urban centres also performed well with notable increases in Limerick (62.4 per cent), Galway (35.6 per cent) and Cork (34.6 per cent). There was also strong growth in the commuter counties including Kildare (47.7 per cent), Meath (28.7 per cent) and Louth (17.1 per cent) but Wicklow remains pretty much stagnant, with growth of just 2.1 per cent in the first six months of 2015.

It was one of only three counties, along with Kilkenny (5.5 per cent) and Monaghan (2.7 per cent) where the growth in transactions wasn’t into double figures, while Cavan was the only county to see sales fall in the first half of the year, albeit only marginally by 0.8 per cent.
