Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin has called on the Taoiseach Enda Kenny to bring in the heads of the main banks in a bid to get mortgage lending going again.
Mr Martin said statistics from the Central Bank show that banks are not providing credit for people who want to buy houses.
The Taoiseach responded by saying the Government "does not want to run the housing market".
But Deputy Martin said that even people with immaculate credit histories are being denied mortgages.
