Minister for the Environment Phil Hogan says he is expecting a “massive late surge” in property tax payments before Tuesday’s deadline.
Almost one million have paid the controversial new tax to date but there are still around 600,000 homeowners yet to pay.
However, Minister Hogan said he expected a “massive late surge” in payments in the 48 hours before the deadline.
“You know from the experience of the past that people pay when they have to pay,” he said.

More than 27,000 people paid last year’s household charge online in the last 24 hours before the March 31st deadline but at the time the number who had paid was only around 50%, with 24% still to pay as yet.
