Construction output up 11.5% year on year in fourth quarter

New figures from the Central Statistics Office show that the volume of output in building and construction increased by 11.5% in the fourth quarter of 2013 compared to the same time in 2012.

The CSO said this reflects year-on-year increases of 34.8% and 14.1% in non-residential and residential building work respectively.

But civil engineering decreased by 11.6% in the year to the fourth quarter.

There was an increase of 12.1% in the value of production over the same period, the CSO added.

The CSO said that given the unprecedented low base this series is starting from, it will continue to monitor the quality and comparability of the data.
