440,000 members of the "boomerang generation" living in their family home

AN RTÉ documentary that aired last night called Crowded House has revealed that there are now 440,000 Irish adults living in their family home.

The programme said that a growing number of these adults have moved back home to live with their parents, with statistics suggesting that 100,000 of them are unemployed.

These people are known as the “boomerang generation” – adults and their children who have to return to their parents as they can’t afford to own or rent a place of their own.

Crowded House details the difficulties of having three generations living under one roof in crowded conditions.
