New dwelling completions increased by 10.6% throughout Ireland in the first nine months of 2026.
That’s according to the latest figures from the Central Statistics Office (CSO), which show that 26,833 new homes have been delivered across the country between the start of January and end of September.
There was further sign of progress in the most recent quarter, with 10,154 new homes completed between July and September – an increase of 10.4% compared with the 9,197 new homes delivered during the same period of 2025.
The largest growth came from scheme housing, with 5,163 new dwelling completions in Q3 2026, up from 13.5% from 4,547 in the same quarter last year.
Apartment completions also grew by 9.8% to 3,464, compared with 3,154 a year earlier, while single dwelling completions rose by 2.1% to 1,527.
Scheme housing accounted for 51% of all completions during the quarter, followed by apartments at 34% and one-off houses at 15%.
The CSO also reported that scheme housing completions during the first nine months of the year were 14.5% higher than for the same period of last year.
Six of Ireland’s eight regions recorded an increase in new dwelling completions during the third quarter.
The West, comprising Galway, Mayo and Roscommon, recorded the largest percentage increase at 33%, followed by the South East – made up of Carlow, Kilkenny, Waterford and Wexford – at 24%.
The South-West, comprising Cork and Kerry, also recorded growth of 22% but completions fell by 8% and 6% respectively in the Mid-West (Clare, Limerick and Tipperary) and the Border (Cavan, Donegal, Leitrim, Monaghan and Sligo).
Dublin continued to account for the largest share of national housing delivery with more than a third (37%) of completions recorded in the capital in Q3 2026, while the Mid-East region - comprising Louth, Meath, Kildare and Wicklow, accounted for a further 18%.
Together, these two regions in and around Dublin represented approximately 55% of all new dwellings completed nationally in the last quarter.
For Q3 2026, 67% of apartment completions were in Dublin (2,311). In Dublin City, 87% of completions were apartments, with 1,061 delivered.
The most scheme completions (1,301) were also in the Dublin region. The West (Galway, Mayo, and Roscommon) had the most single dwelling completions in Q3 2026 at 277.
