The roll out of water meters in homes across the country will begin next year.
A Department of the Environment spokesperson confirmed the matter to The Journal in light of reports earlier today that the meters would not be ready in time for the government’s 2014 target for the roll out of water charges.
The first installations will take place in Kerry, Wexford and Fingal before spreading nationwide.
