Water charges will not be introduced next January, insists Gilmore

There has been a welcome reprieve for struggling homeowners with the news that water charges will not be introduced next January as had been planned.

The decision to defer the introduction of the water charges was announced by Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore.

Commenting on the matter, the Minister for Foreign Affairs said: “We have always said that water charges will be based on a metering system and my understanding is that there will not be sufficient metering done by January to allow a charging regime to come in.”

A new target date is expected to be announced shortly.
