To move or not to move in with your partner?

To move or not to move in with your partner?

Most people live through their 20"s sharing accommodation with friends and strangers before finally making the plunge to move in with their partners. Deciding to be 'roomies' with your partner is quite a different experience and while you may imagine all the brilliant things about living together it does ... have some downsides. Before you pack your bags you should ...
  1. Talk about money and bills before you move in. Decide who pays what and when. Better still set up a joint bank account.
  2. Learn to communicate clearly in a calm and pleasant way! Sulking does not work.
  3. Living in close proximity, it"s important to remember some things will always annoy you like wet towels on the floor and the amazing ability to forget that washing machine does not empty on its own, just be prepared as it will not always be perfect!
  4. A regular strife for many couples is cleaning. If it does not take on a natural 'I do this and you do that' - make a rota and share. Nagging only leads to flights and no one wants to become their mother too young!
  5. Learn that both of you will do things differently and accept the others flaws like leaving the toilet seat up, not folding the washing or leaving the cap off the toothpaste, in the grand scheme of things these are worth biting your tongue for.
  6. A secret to avoiding TV tiffs is to have 2! One for football and one for soaps, yes this can shatter the snuggling up on the couch bit but it can led to you both having a peaceful and content evening spent doing your own thing while still being near each other!
