The Galway races: Looking for somewhere to stay?
It’s that time of year again when horse enthusiasts flock in their thousands to Ballybrit racecourse for an auld flutter on the horses. The Galway Races is one, if not ‘the’ top race meetings of the year and attracts some 200,000 race-goers! If you haven’t planned ahead or if you have taken a spontaneous last minute decision to up sticks and head for Galway for the week, accommodation will no doubt be sparse if not, non-existent.
BUT while hotels and B&Bs will no doubt be choc o’ block throughout the week we’ve found a handful of holiday homes only a stones throw from all the action at Ballybrit; here is our top 3:
First up on the list, and the only house, is a 5 bed detached property on Whitestrand Avenue, Salthill in Galway. The property is described as a fantastic house with all mod cons included; Linen is provided, four of the rooms are ensuite, there is a private rear garden with a BBQ and plenty of space for parking! The house is situated in easy walking distance of both Galway city centre and Salthill Strand and costs a nice €700 for the week.

Second up is a 3 bed apartment, Gort na Coiribe on the Headford Rd also at €700 for the week. The apartment is literally beside Galway’s City Centre and boasts a 3* Bord Failte approved holiday home accommodation status. Not only that but Gort na Coiribe provides Reception services and has nightly security patrols. If you don’t fancy a 3 bed apartment Gort na Coiribe offers a number of different apartment and house sizes.

Last but not least and one that offers an amazing rate / value is Dunaras Village, Bishop O’ Donnell Road. Dunaras Village has one, two and three bed apartments (all of which i.e. rooms are ensuite) and is located just minutes away from the seaside resort of Salthill and a few kilometres from Galway City Centre. As mentioned previously Dunaras Village offers great value for money; a 3 bed apartment is only €339 a week….There is also WiFi internet access throughout!
