Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore said today that the structure of the new property tax may be known by the end of the year.
Minister Gilmore said that work is being done on the promised tax, which is set to replace the household charge.
He said that the amount and format should become clear soon.
"There is work that is being done at the moment, working through how the property tax would be structured," he said.

"That isn't completed yet, it may be possible that it may be done before the end of the year
"We are working on it with a view to getting clarity on that reasonably quickly."
