month the construction of Ireland’s first “eco village” began in the little village of Cloughjordan, North Tipperary. If ever there was a proactive carbon foot print community, this village is it!

On completion the 69-acre farm, which leads into the main street of village, will consist of 130 dwellings of apartments, semi- detached and detached houses. Residences will have access to over 50 acres of community land and infrastructure, which cleverly enough is already in place. Facilities include children's play areas, garden allotments, community buildings, landscaped parkland, an organic farm and orchards.

The community will carry out top of the line waste minimisation and management. There will be several recycling bases throughout the development where householders can bring their various recyclable wastes. Cloughjordan will in time create its own water supply network and its own local energy grid consistent with ESB standards and become a single provider by linking to the ESB. It will also source electrical power from distant onshore wind turbines. – Quite impressive!

If you are looking to invest in a better future both for the environment and your peace of mind, Cloughjordan is definitely worth a look.
