Sean Connery's former Irish residence on the market for €1.65m

Violet Hill House, the former Irish residence of the actor Sean Connery, is being offered for sale by Damien Matthews of Matthews Auctioneers for €1,650,000.

An impressive Victorian Gothic mansion built in 1868, it sits on approximately three and a half acres of very private mature grounds with some terrific stands of timber. The residence of the famous actor during the 1970s, its imposing marble pillared entrance hallway with high ceilings throughout and generous interior proportions allowed entertaining on a grand scale. In 1978 Connery, who expressed his fondness for Ireland throughout his career, also starred in a film made here titled The First Great Train Robbery.

While the house and lands will be sold by private treaty the entire contents will be sold by public auction on Sunday November 3rd. The contents auction will commence at 12 noon and will be held in the house itself. This contents auction will be one of the most important antique auctions held in Ireland this year.

Located on Herbert Road, a mature and much sought after residential location within close proximity of Bray, Enniskerry Village, the Ritz Carlton Hotel, Powerscourt Estate and Avoca Handweavers, Violet Hill House is positioned directly off the main Dublin/Wicklow N11 motorway (beside the Bray bypass). Dublin City is within ten miles and the nearby M50 motorway allows ease of access to Dublin Airport. All local amenities including shopping, schools (including St. Columba's) and public transport (Dart) are within easy distance.

Possessing immense character with great privacy Violet Hill House would make an exceptional family home or ambassadorial residence. It is an imposing six bedroomed property of fine proportions with bright spacious rooms and superb views of the surrounding countryside, including the Sugar Loaf Mountain. There is also the additional benefit of a characterful first floor self-contained apartment with its own entrance.

The property possesses present and future development potential. Zoned objective A1 'Primarily Residential' in the Bray Town Council Development Plan 2005 - 2011, this zoning objective permits residential development. The extensive mature grounds which surround the property lends itself to the development of a small exclusive residential scheme (subject to obtaining the necessary planning consents).
