SCSI call for further action to stimulate construction sector

The Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland has welcomed the Government Action Plan on Jobs and called for further action to stimulate construction sector jobs.

Andrew Nugent Chair of the Quantity Surveying Professional Group of the Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland said: “The Government Action Plan is positive news for Ireland and job creation in general. The construction sector has an important role to play in supporting the plan and Foreign Direct Investment in terms of the development, planning, costing and construction of new ICT facilities, data centres, suitable office space for multinationals, health infrastructure and other employment generating projects.

"However, we would also like to see further dedicated action plans by Government to stimulate the construction sector which currently employs 150,000 people, down from 380,000 at the peak, and is half the size of what it should be for an economy of our size”.
