Rory McIlroy puts his home on the market for €2.5m

The world’s number one golfer Rory McIlroy has put his luxury Northern Irish home up for sale for £2 million (€2.5m).

Situated at Moneyreagh in the hills above Belfast, the five bed home includes a practice area with a putting green and driving range. Also equipped with a gymnasium, the house featured in a BBC documentary featuring McIlroy in the build-up and aftermath of his debut Major win at the US Open in 2011.

Michael Rodgers, a partner at Rodgers & Brown, the Holywood, Co Down, firm of estate agents which is handling the sale, said: "I would say interest in the house will be extremely good, both locally and potentially worldwide. We will have to wait and see."

The house, which is set in 14 acres, was built in 2006.

McIlroy, now the world's number one golfer, purchased it in 2009, but now spends most of his time overseas, especially in the US.

The owner's perspective in the sale brochure reads: "I have really enjoyed living here. It is a really special place which has allowed me to relax and unwind - when I get time! With the privacy and seclusion of the location it is hard to believe the house is only 25 minutes from Belfast city centre and City airport.

"The space the house offers is bright and airy and there are views over the gardens and the pond from most rooms. The house has always been busy with friends and family and has suited us on all occasions."
