Revenue to provide people with estimated values of their homes ahead of property tax roll out

The Revenue Commissioners will tell homeowners what they believe their home is worth in order to help them determine what they will pay when the property tax comes into force in July.

People will be told the “indicative value” of their home in letters to be sent out by the Revenue in March.

Homeowners will still be able to self-assess their property’s value but those who deviate from the provided estimates will face the prospect of checks, inspections and challenges.

The move is designed to stop people from potentially undervaluing their homes to save on property tax bills.
