Property tax could create jobs

The forthcoming property tax might be unpopular with a lot of people but there is a silver lining to it, as it will create some new jobs.

Around 195 personnel will be responsible for administering the self-assessed tax when it comes into effect in July.

The staff will be based at the Revenue Commissioners’ tax office in Ennis, Co Clare.

Twenty-nine of the 195 staff in the Ennis office are already assigned to the property tax project.

The current team is set to be supplemented by the redeployment of existing Revenue staff and temporary resources.

Earlier this month the Dáil heard that an additional 100 staff may be needed to fully implement the new property tax.
