]When filling out your CAO form, a career in the property sector may not be the first option that would come to mind. However despite the challenging market the IAVI (Irish Auctioneers & Valuers Institute) have recently started a new campaign to promote the property profession and the variety of sectors within it (commercial, residential, investment, development, property & facilities management, auctioneering etc.) to secondary school students.
While the IAVI concur that the market has been very difficult over the past two years, they also say they are seeing signs of a stablisation and reiterate that the property market is cyclical. They say that for students with an interest / aptitude for it, if they enter a property course now, by the time of graduation in 2013 / 2014, they would be entering the working world where the market would be improved, be more regulated and a market where there would be more opportunities both domestically and internationally for qualified property professionals.
"The property industry offers a wide variety of career paths for graduates in sectors such as Residential (houses and apartments), Commercial (offices, industrial, retail, leisure properties), Property Investment and Development, Planning, Licensed premises and Hotels, Professional Services, Research, Marketing, Asset management, Valuation, Letting and Property & Facilities Management".
As part of their initiative they interviewed a handful of graduates who completed IAVI accredited property degrees in recent years. They talk about the sector they work in and what they enjoy most about their job.
Why not take a look of the video to find out about the sector and what a career in the property would hold.
