The resort overlooks the medieval town coastal town of Obidos and all but three of the 120 houses built so far have been sold! But fret not this is only phase ... one of the development. In total, 1,071 villas and townhouses are planned for and hoped to be finished by 2012.
Not sure I would fancy splashing out on a property, beside 1,070 others but the prize winning architects have thought it all through and one could be persuaded!
They have planning permission on the grounds that no more than 7% of the 642 acre site is to be built on, electricity comes from wind farms, waste water is recycled and care was taken to protect nearby olive trees and forests. If you are a golf lover then you might be sold with 18 hole champion golf course par 72 and of course no resort would be complete with a hotel and spa, retail and leisure facilities.
The whole project has been given the thumbs up by the Portuguese government and a couple of local banks are offering 70% loan to value mortgages. Some have described the development as Ultra modern but some have also dubbed the properties as 'bunkers' lookalikes.
Prices start at €375,000 and work their way up to 1.5million for a 5 bed villa and a pool. Why not take a look... If you can"t afford a house but wouldn't mind a round of golf, local fees allow you to tee off for about €70.
