Plans unveiled for residential quarter in Oldtown

Plans have been unveiled for a large residential quarter at Oldtown in Swords, north Dublin.

The ambitious plans have been put together by developer Gerry Gannon, whose company Gannon Properties has lodged the first of two planning applications with Fingal County Council for 469 homes, mostly made up of three and four bed units as well as two-bed starter homes.

The site for the proposed development is on zoned lands between the northwestern edge of Swords and a new regional park that is being planned by the council.

A second planning application will be submitted next week. This will include the balance of the residential element and a 1,500sq m (16,146sq ft) village centre, which will include three shops, a crèche and a café around the village square. This will be opposite two new primary schools and a community hall, which have all been completed.

Both applications are based on a masterplan for the entire Oldtown lands extending to 44 hectares which was prepared by Gannon Properties. A key feature of the scheme is an archaeology park off Rathbeale Road and the future development of a 65-hectare park northwest of Oldtown.

Gannon Properties is also seeking planning permission for two distinctive types of houses to complete the Robswall scheme in Malahide. One application is for 36 four-bed houses similar to the formal style of existing terraces and crescents. The second application is for 49 two, three and four-bed mews houses. The company has also moved to provide additional houses at Marrsfield Avenue and Panhandle Park in Clongriffin.

The Gannon moves on three fronts are designed to enhance the value of the various land holdings on which loans have been transferred to NAMA.
