Planning Granted For Cork Docklands Facelift

Planning Granted For Cork Docklands Facelift

Even with a recession Cork doesn't stop! Just over 2 weeks ago Cork City Council approved planning for a huge overhaul of the city's docklands.
Christened the "Atlantic Quarter" it is said to be one of the countries largest EVER developments. On the site of the former Ford distribution plant and right beside Pairc ... ui Chaoimh the facelift will put on the market 575 new properties for sale in Cork. Also approved are plans for;
  • 550,000 sq foot office space
  • Cafes, bars, restaurants & commercial space
  • An arena / event centre with a capacity for 5,300 people
  • A 4 star hotel
  • And to top it all off, the highlight, the development will see the construction for the largest single span open bridge in Europe already named "The Eastern Gateway Bridge"

Even though I've only seen the digital depiction of the end product the whole development looks adventurous and completely brilliant - if I do say so myself!
However don't rush to get you cheque book out just yet, a few things need to fall into place in order for the development to go ahead namely, funding. With the recession well and truly underway the key ingredient capital will be the yeah or nah deciding factor for the go ahead of the project.
But despite hard money times & a bit of rickety market Cork definitely has not lost sight of its future development and is powering on. One can only speculate that if this quite impressive project goes ahead the value of property in Cork can only rise.
