The number of people who have registered to pay the new household charge surpassed the 900,000 mark today.
According to Local Government Management Agency figures, the total estimated number of properties registered numbered 900,392 at midday today.
The figure is still far short of the 1.6 to 1.8 million households who are liable to pay the €100 charge.
The deadline to register and pay the charge came into effect on March 31 and therefore anyone who pays from now on will incur fines.
