Revenue had sent 1.66m notifications to liable property owners and had aimed for compliance of 80% by the end of the year.
Almost three quarters of the returns made to date have been electronic, while 22% have been paper filings and 5% done over the phone.
The deadline for property tax returns, which was extended on Tuesday, was 8pm yesterday evening.
