Galway-based auctioneers O’Donnellan and Joyce achieved more than €5 million in house sales in its recent auction, held in the Harbour Hotel and packed with buyers from all over Ireland.
There is currently huge competition for properties in and around Galway city, especially in areas like Salthill, Knocknacarra, the Claddagh, and Shantalla.
The auction was divided into two sessions, with the morning session comprising properties outside Galway and investment properties, and the afternoon session comprising private homes throughout Galway city.
There were considerably fewer people bidding on properties in rural areas outside Galway city, even though they were being offered at extremely low prices.
The highest selling properties in the morning session were St Rita’s, 18 Shantalla Road for €260,000, and the Burren Walking Lodge, Co Clare, for €200,000. The highest selling properties of the afternoon session were 36 Maunsells Park, Taylor’s Hill, for €420,000, and 55 Dalysfort Road, Salthil, for €405,000.
