Number of immigrants buying homes here reaches record high

The number of immigrants purchasing homes in Ireland has hit record levels.

New figures released by the Central Statistics Office show that almost 40,000 people from outside of Ireland now have a mortgage here.

That means that 7% of the total immigrant population in the country is a homeowner. That compares with around 14% for people born in Ireland.

The CSO findings reported that people from outside of Ireland were more likely to have fewer rooms in their home though.
