November's here - it's time to sort your Local Property Tax

We're now into November and that means that you need to take action in relation to your Local Property Tax (LPT) for 2022.

Homeowners are required to confirm their LPT payment option for 2022 by November 7th 2021.

You can do this when you are submitting your LPT Return. You can also authorise another person to make payments on your behalf.

If you do not pay your LPT Charge for 2022, Revenue may not issue you with a tax clearance certificate.

How to pay

The easiest way to pay your LPT Charge is online. This gives you a wide range of secure payment options:

  • single payment in full:
    • debit or credit card
    • Annual Debit Instruction (ADI)
    • one-off cash payment through an approved Payment Service Provider.
  • phased payments (instalments) to spread your payments throughout 2022"
    • monthly direct debit
    • weekly or monthly cash payments through an approved Payment Service Provider
    • deduction at source (from your salary, wages, occupational pension, Department of Social Protection payment or Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine payment).

If you choose the ADI option, the payment will not be deducted from your bank account until 21 March 2022.

If you are liable for Local Property Tax (LPT) on more than one property, you are required to arrange your payment for LPT through one of the online payment options.

Pay by paper form

You can also arrange to pay via a paper form.

If you submit your LPT Return using the paper Form LPT1, instead of submitting it online, your payment options are limited to:

  • single payment in full:
    • cheque payment
    • one-off cash payment through an approved Payment Service Provider.
  • phased payments (instalments) to spread your payments throughout 2022:
    • weekly or monthly cash payments through an approved Payment Service Provider
    • deduction at source (from your salary, wages, occupational pension, Department of Social Protection payment or Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine payment).

Even if you choose to submit your valuation on the paper LPT Return, you can still arrange your payment online through the LPT online service.

LPT payment dates for 2022

The date by which you need to pay your LPT Charge depends on the payment option you choose:

  • January 2022 - phased payments start for deduction at source and regular cash payments through a payment service provider
  • 12 January 2022 - latest date for paying in full by cash or cheque
  • 15 January 2022 - monthly direct debit payments start and continue on the 15th day of every month
  • 21 March 2022 - deduction date for Annual Debit Instruction (ADI) payment.

You can logon to pay your LPT on the Revenue website here.
