There are no plans to extend the deadline for the Irish Water conservation grant beyond midnight tonight, the Department of Social Protection has said.
Announced as a way to encourage the sensible use of water, the grant is being administered by the Department of Social Protection and is available to people who register with Irish Water regardless of whether they intend to pay their bills or not.
Applications for the €100 payment will not be accepted after midnight.
A spokesperson for the Department said that they have witnessed a large increase in applications as the deadline looms.
She said there have been no changes made to the closing date.
As of Thursday morning, the number of applications for the grant stood at 763,818.
Approximately 1.3 million people are eligible for the incentive.
Despite complaints in the Seanad that the sign-up process was difficult, the Department of Social Protection said they have had no reports of any problems with the website, but explained there is a support team (0761 – 087 890/ 1890 100 043) on hand to help over the telephone.
