A new website has been set up by Irish Water for the purpose of water charage refunds.
The utility will use the site to make things easier for householders to get their money back.
Around 990,000 who paid their bills in full can expect to receive refunds of between €200 and €325 in the coming months.
This comes after the government passed the early stages of the Water Services Bill in October, making it possible to start processing refunds.
Head of Customer Operations for Irish Water, Eamon Gallen commented: “The two big questions that customers have is how much they will receive and when they will receive it.
"Household customers can be assured that they will receive the full amount they paid, and customers will shortly be able to check online exactly how much they are due and when there are likely to receive their refund.
"Irish Water have been working in the background for several months to ensure that refunds will be ready to go as soon as we are authorised to do so by government. Our priority is to ensure that those who paid their household charges get their refund as quickly and efficiently as possible.
"This is why I would urge any customers who have not informed us of a change of address to do so now so that their details are up to date and there is no delay in issuing their cheque.”
The website can be visited at www.water.ie/refunds
Refunding water charges will cost the Exchequer in the region of €178m, including administrative costs of €5.87m.
