Minister for Housing and Planning Willie Penrose TD has announced plans for a new construction project at Coultry 6 in Ballymun, Dublin.
The project of 25 houses will finish off the Coultry area in tandem with the completion of Coultry Park.
Speaking about the new homes, Minister Penrose said: “These homes are urgently needed by the families and individuals that are still living in the original flats and I will continue to prioritise the needs of these people under my Department’s regeneration investment programme.”
The investment is part of the Ballymun Regeneration Programme. To date the programme has received €700 million in funding from the Minister’s department for the demolition of the old blocks and towers and the rebuilding of over 1,700 new social homes, as well as a new town centre and much needed community facilities and amenities.
The Regeneration Company, in partnership with Dublin City Council, are currently overseeing the delivery of 217 new social houses at Shangan 5 and Sillogue 4, a project that is currently being remediated for pyrite, as well as managing the final demolition projects and planning for the final phases of construction.
The announcement of the €4.6 million in funding to begin work on the 25 new homes in Ballymun was welcomed by Labour Party TD for Dublin North West, John Lyons.
He said: “These 25 homes will allow for further de tenanting of the original flats which is very welcome news for those waiting on new homes. They will also complete the redevelopment around Coultry Park, to take another step towards finishing the Ballymun Regeneration project.
“I will be working with the Minister to see the Ballymun Regeneration project completed for the people of Ballymun and to address housing issues across Dublin North West.”
