Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore has confirmed a 'Mortgage to Rent' scheme will be signed off on by the government soon to deal with the personal debt crisis.
Speaking in the Dáil on Thursday, the Labour Party leader rejected claims from Fianna Fáil that nothing has been done on the issue since the coalition took office following February's General Election.
He said the Government wants to ensure people remain in their homes and the Cabinet will sign off on measures to do that before Christmas.
"They will include measures such as 'Mortgage to Rent' schemes, they will include work that is being done by the Minister for Justice at bringing forward a personal insolvency bill, and they will bring forward a range of solutions which will provide practical solutions to those in mortgage difficulty," Mr Gilmore said.
