Mirror Magic: The eyes have it

Magician
You don"t need to be a magician to create the illusion of space. Mirrors are great for creating the illusion of space and giving more light to your living space. They reflect light and trick the eye into thinking a room is bigger than it actually is.

First impressions last. Use a full-length mirror in the hallway to give the immediate impression of space ... on entering your home. For optimum effect, place a mirror on a wall opposite a window to maximise light. In bathrooms, cover an entire wall with mirrors. This is not only functional but again will trick the eye into thinking the bathroom is bigger.

In the living areas, place lamps next to mirrors. This will help to spread the light around the room. You can even use mirrors in the garden or back yard. This works especially well in small townhouse gardens where you place a mirror at the end of the garden. You can let plants grow around it but it will create the impression of more space and will definitely provide more light.

These are useful tips if you are selling up and your home is on show. They are also quite useful if you are staying put.
