Local Property Tax to be discussed by government today

The handling of payments for the Local Property Tax is due to be discussed by Government ministers at their weekly meeting.

During the past week, controversy has raged over the requirement for early payment of next year's property tax by people using credit or debit cards.

Minister for Finance Michael Noonan was briefed on the issue by Revenue Commissioners Chair Josephine Feehily yesterday evening.

The Revenue Commissioners has said extra staff are being deployed from today on its helpline.

Notices are also being printed in national newspapers giving information on how to pay the property tax.
