Local authority warns about bogus household charge collectors

A  LOCAL authority has issued a warning to homeowners after it emerged that bogus callers have been visiting homes claiming to be collecting the household charge.

Cork County Council made the warning after receiving a number of reports of people going around claiming to collect the €100 charge from those who have yet to pay.

The council has advised householders that none of its officials have been deployed to collect money on a door-to-door basis and that money should not be handed over to these people under any circumstances.

They have also asked that anyone who has been approached by someone attempting to collect the charge to contact the gardaí immediately.
