Latest O'Donnellan & Joyce auction proves a huge success

A total of 23 of the 27 properties up for auction at last Friday’s O’Donnellan & Joyce summer auction in the Harbour Hotel in Galway were sold at the event.

In total, there were sales of around €4m on the day.

The remaining four lots that didn’t sell were withdrawn but are currently under active negotiation.

Bidding was fast paced from the outset with the first lot of the day, No 2 Cloonarkin Drive, a three bedroom bungalow in Oranmore, selling for €242,000. Residences in close proximity to the university and GMIT were in demand, with No 4 Moyola Park, Newcastle, an attractive four bedroom semidetached residence close to both NUI Galway and University Hospital Galway, selling for €297,000. Apt 4 Newcastle Court was sold for €185,000; this three bedroom apartment is within walking distance of all amenities and makes a superb investment. No 104 Rahylin Glebe, Ballybane, sold for €93,000. This three bedroom semidetached home located close to GMIT would make an excellent investment or starter home.

The bidding was fast and furious for city centre locations with No 1 Forster Place, Forster Street, selling for €205,000. This two bedroom apartment located a short walk from Eyre Square comes with a parking space and makes a wonderful investment. Another stunning two bedroom apartment with views over Galway Bay, at No 19 Fairgreen, sold for €150,000. No 12 Commerce Court added to the list of spectacular apartment sales, selling for €200,000; it is just off the lively Latin Quarter in the city centre.

The centrally located No 2 Presentation Road sold for €255,000. This four bedroom terraced residence is in immaculate condition, making it a perfect city centre home. Another excellent investment property was No 4 St Joseph’s Terrace, which sold for €160,000. No 61 Castlelawn Heights, Headford Road, was sold for €197,000; this lovely three bedroom semidetached residence is close to Galway city centre.

Family homes in some of Galway’s most sought after locations also attracted significant interest. The beautiful Rockbine, Taylor’s Hill, sold for €565,000, surpassing its AMV by €90,000. The five bedroom detached residence stands on a magnificent mature site. No 88 Grattan Park, Salthill, a three bedroom semidetached home just moments from Salthill Promenade, sold for €336,000. The fine weather clearly lured buyers to Salthill with No 18 Monksfield, Salthill, selling for €385,000. This imposing semidetached residence is deceptively spacious with six/seven bedrooms.

A stunning traditional farmhouse on the Athlone Road, Ballinasloe, standing on 20 acres located two miles outside Ballinasloe town, was withdrawn at €330,000. The scenic theme continued with a charming one bedroom semidetached home at No 124 Clifden Glen, Clifden, selling for an amazing €28,000.

The crowd looked outside Galway to The Laurels, Kilmaine, Co Mayo, where a row of six terraced homes, one of which is fully complete while the others are partly completed, sold for €158,000, almost doubling its AMV of €80,000, following some intense and competitive bidding.

The charming Lenamore, Athenry, sold for an astonishing €31,000. The three bedroom bungalow is located close to both Athenry and Monivea. A commercial unit at No 1 Old Church Street, Athenry, sold for €76,000. This ground floor commercial unit comes complete with overhead residential accommodation included. Concluding the day’s auction was another excellent investment property, Nos 3 and 3A Marina Point, Ballinasloe, a commercial unit with ground floor retail and office accommodation overhead, which sold for €220,000.

Speaking after Friday’s auction, Colm O’Donnellan of O’Donnellan and Joyce said: “We are delighted with the tremendous interest and a capacity crowd who attended the auction.”

O’Donnellan & Joyce will hold its next auction on Friday October 3.

Anyone interested in placing a property for sale by public auction should register the property by August 22. Call the auction team on (091) 564212.
