KBC’s headquarters in Brussels made the cash injection at the end of March with a spokesman for the bank confirming to the Irish Independent that the money would be used to fund expansion and not for shoring up the business.
In recent months KBC has opened retail offices in Dublin and Cork with further offices planned for Limerick and Galway.
The bank has been investing heavily in building awareness of its brand and has successfully entered the retail deposit market. The bank is also planning to launch a current account later this year, the spokesman added.
