Recruiters Hays has seen a three fold increase in the number of jobs on offer in the construction and property sector in May compared to the same time last year.
Site engineers, quantity surveyors, project managers and property managers are the most sought after in recent months, Hays said.
The increase in demand for construction professionals is reflected in recent economic data, with the Ulster Bank Construction PMI for May confirming that the sector is "on the mend".
"While we are still a very long way off the frantic activity of the pre-crash years, it is nonetheless encouraging to see positive signs of growth within construction and property. The sector has taken a battering in recent years and while we are starting from a low base, the need for construction professionals is again growing," commented Mike McDonagh, director of the construction and property division at Hays.
He said the company is seeing increased demand for construction professionals across all specialist areas and across several areas of activities, including new builds, reburbishments or building fit-outs.
Mr McDonagh said that most of the work is in the commercial sector, especially in NAMA-controlled projects.
"However, we are also beginning to see a slight increase in activity on the residential side and we expect this to grow further in the months ahead," he added.
