John Lennon's former home for sale

The former home of music legend John Lennon has gone up for sale for £15 million (€19m).

Lennon resided at the house in Weybridge, Surrey with his first wife Cynthia between 1964 and 1968 and it was there that he wrote a number of tracks for The Beatles’ eighth studio album ‘Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’.

The house, which Lennon bought for just £20,000 in July 1964, also featured in the 1988 documentary ‘Imagine: John Lennon’.

The house, named “Kenwood”, is on the St George’s Hill estate, where famous neighbours include Cliff Richard and Tom Jones. It boasts six bedrooms, a swimming pool and 1.5 acres of landscaped gardens.

As part of a £40,000 renovation, Lennon reduced the number of rooms in the property to 17 and built an outdoor pool.

Estate agents Knight Frank described the property as a “luxuriously finished family home”.

Bill Martin, who wrote hit songs such as 'Puppet on a String' and 'Congratulations', purchased the property for £40,000 in 1968 and it has changed hands a number of times since, most recently being sold for £5.8m (€7.37m) in January 2007.
