Irish Water says it has saved three billion litres of water over the past six months by fixing leaks in household pipes.
The utility says it discovered more than 50,000 leaks across the country through its First Fix Free Scheme.
Irish Water said the leaks were losing 18 million litres of water.
They have written to 35,000 households making them aware of potential leaks, and it expects that number to double by the time the metering programme is finished.
