IPAV insist value-based property tax would be "crazy"

A leading auctioneers group have insisted that a value-based property tax would be “crazy”.

Speculation grew at the weekend that the government would charge people for the property tax based on the value of their homes.

This has since been denied as “premature” by Minister for Transport Leo Varadkar but the option remains very much on the table.

The Institute of Professional Auctioneers and Valuers (IPAV) have questioned how such a tax would be implemented, how often valuations would take place and how these would be paid for.
