Lobby group the Irish Business and Employers Confederation (IBEC) has called for tax incentives and grants to be introduced for property owners across Ireland to boost renovation activity.
IBEC said the move would help to create more construction and trade jobs to assist the ailing sector.
Director of policy for IBEC Brendan Butler said: "Simple and inexpensive steps can be taken to support consumer spending and create jobs ... [while] government policy can change consumer behaviour and unlock untapped demand in the economy."
