Household charge will have to be paid, insists Noonan

Those who have yet to pay the household charge have been warned by the Minister for Finance that it will be automatically added to the forthcoming Property Tax when it is introduced later this year.

Michael Noonan has said that anyone who has not yet paid the €100 charge will eventually have to do so.

Anyone who pays this January will be charged €130 but the charge will double from its original amount to €200 if it is not paid by the time the Property Tax kicks in on July 1st.

Commenting on the matter, the Minister said the “household charge will not be ignored and will be collected.”

Figures released before Christmas showed that 1.1 million homes had registered for the charge to date, with around 500,000 still to pay.
