HOUSE prices rose in Britain last month, new figures have revealed

Data from Halifax shows that UK house prices rose by 0.6% in January, almost completely reversing the previous month's decline.

House prices fell by -1.8% in the three months to January compared with a year ago, taking the average price of a home to £160,907 (€194,177).

"The continuing very low level of interest rates has helped to support housing demand, resulting in little overall movement in house prices since last spring," said housing economist Martin Ellis.

Estate agents here have insisted that there has been a bright start to 2012 and they will hope that will follow suit with price rises in certain areas of the country.
