Eoghan Murphy appointed new Housing Minister

Eoghan Murphy has been appointed the new Minister for Housing, Planning and Local Government.

The 35-year-old Dublin Bay South TD was new Taoiseach Leo Varadkar’s campaign manager in the recent Fine Gael leadership race.

He was previously junior minister at the Departments of Finance and Public Expenditure. He was first elected to the Dáil in 2011 having been a Dublin City Councillor since 2009.

Mr Murphy has previously worked for the United Nations in Vienna.

He succeeds Simon Coveney, who is the new Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, with special responsibility for Brexit.
