€15m fund to renovate vacant houses

The Government has announced funding of €15m for a scheme to bring almost 1,000 vacant local authority housing units back into use.

The initiative will help provide new homes for 952 families around the country.

The four local authorities in Dublin will receive funding of just over €5m, which will be used to return 271 housing units to full use.

In Cork, 162 units will become available, 56 units will be provided in Donegal, 52 in Galway, 49 in Kildare, 31 in Limerick, 25 in Waterford and 15 in Kilkenny.

Local authorities in the rest of the country will receive funding to provide a total of 291 housing units.
