There are so many accommodation options when it comes to student living. We have already visited onsite college acc and digs / lodgings but house share is also very popular among students.
Having done it myself house share is a fun and brilliant way to live the college life. You have oodles more freedom; you can eat when and what you like, come and go ... as you please, friends can arrive in there droves and stay over and you can throw the odd party every now and then.
Although house sharing has numerous advantages of course it comes with a few of those disadvantages too such as; bills - ESB, telephone, tv licence, heating, refuse etc. and the trying to divide and pay those bills with all those you share with, doing your own cooking / cleaning / washing and shopping, sharing with strangers who might not be so easy to get on with and the house itself. Many houses which are let out to students aren"t up to A1 standard.
However some of these so called disadvantages are easily solved. Rota"s can make light work of dishing out household responsibilities - We"ll post another blog to help you iron out any house sharing issues that might occur.
All in all, house sharing is a great way to live and meet new friends. However many landlords will not accept 1st year students so it maybe 2nd year before you begin your house sharing days. Prices / rents can vary depending on where in the country you are and what you are looking for. In Cork a single can cost €85 per week and €75 for a twin.
