An 11th-century castle in the Turin hills which was the childhood home of Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, wife of French President Nicolas Sarkozy is on market for $28 million.

Born in Turin in 1967 she became the heiress to the fortune created by the Italian tire manufacturing company CEAT, founded by her grandfather Virginio Bruni Tedeschi in ... the 1920s.

The castle which was renovated by her grandfather and features frescos, marble floors elaborately decorated rooms and 173 acres of parkland.

Her grandfather died in 1996 and the family sold the castle early last year to Saudi Arabian billionaire, Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, who is listed by Forbes as one of the world's wealthiest men. He is selling the 21,000sq ft castle, having never moved in.
