The Cheltenham Festival gets underway next Tuesday and to mark the occasion MyHome have decided to look at some of the houses currently for sale that would suit those interest in horse racing or other equestrian activities.
The horse racing industry is worth millions to the Irish economy each year and we pride ourselves on the success of both our breeding and our jockeys.
Ireland might be one of the world’s smaller nations but the Coolmore Stud in Tipperary, for example, is the world’s largest thoroughbred stud farm.
Some of the top trainers in the world reside here include Dermot Weld, John Oxx and Aidan O’Brien while our jockeys are also highly rated the world over with Ruby Walsh and Tony McCoy amongst the most notable faces in the winners’ enclosure.
With top venues such as Punchestown, The Curragh, Leopardstown and Galway, to name but a few, it is little surprise that a large portion of the Irish public are fascinated by the equine sport.
With that in mind, MyHome.ie has decided to look at some of the finest homes with stables that are on sale at present. One of the most eye-catching properties from a horse racing perspective on the market at present is Seven Springs Stables in The Curragh.
Set on 4.27 acres, this was the home of Mick Halford for the last number of years and as home to a number of top class horses including Cockney Lass, Queen’s Wharf, Daganya, Golden Cross, Ms Emma, Tipperary All Star, Ms Sally and many more.
The property features seven paddocks all post and railed and is certainly worth a view for all those interested in housing horses on their property.
At €975,000, the property has also dropped in value from €1.5m this time last year.
Of course, such a figure would be out of many peoples’ league but homes with stables don’t have to cost a fortune.
In Aughavas, Co Leitrim, for example, you can buy a five bed home with three stables on 1.8 acres of land for an asking price of €250,000.
Meanwhile, the OakForte Stables in Keenagh, Co Longford comes with eight stables and costs €355,000.
Newtown Mill in Eadestown, Naas, Co Kildare has four stables and has an asking price of €535,000.
Meanwhile, also on the market at present is Killahurlar Stud Farm in Arklow. This magnificent stud farm is built on 10 acres and includes a five bed two storey house as well as a fully operating stud farm with jumping/exercise arena, six stables, a tack room, a feed area and a wash box.
In West Cork, meanwhile, you could own Westbourne House in Dunmanway and its stables for €275,000.
Of course, these are just a small selection of what is on the market at present but they certainly would whet the appetite of many a horse racing fan and particularly as we head into Cheltenham week.
