Building work to resume at NUI Galway

Building work is to resume at NUI Galway after projects had to be abandoned last year when McNamara Construction went into receivership.

College authorities have awarded a new contract to JJ Rhatigan and Co to complete the work on five projects at the city centre campus.

Around 400 sub-contracting jobs will be restored as work begins on the €75m development.

The building projects are Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences as well as two buildings dedicated to Biomedical Science Research.

The work will be completed on a phased basis from the end of 2012 into early 2013.

In November 2010, workers were left in limbo when NAMA appointed a receiver to Michael McNamara Construction.

Wages were left unpaid and expensive equipment and tools were left on site at the time.
