Bar from The Quiet Man at centre of bidding war

Pat Cohan’s Bar, which famously featured in iconic film The Quiet Man, is at the centre of a bidding war at present.

Four bidders have emerged as front runners for the public house in Cong, Co Mayo, which was immortalised in the movie starring Maureen O’Hara and John Wayne.

The property is on the market for €300,000 and looks set to achieve that price thanks to significant interest from home and abroad, including as far away as Florida.

According to auctioneer Vincent Walsh there has been a “massive response” to the sale.

“There was huge interest from overseas,” he told the Evening Herald. “We’re now down to about four serious bidders and we are confident of the sale going through.

The top bidders include three individuals form the UK and one potential buyer from Florda.

“The gentleman from Florida has been over twice now to view the place and the interest from the UK is just as strong. There is one individual from London who has also shown a lot of interest,” said Mr Walsh.
